Architectural Ceramics Workshop in the Sierra Nevada Foothills

NEVADA CITY, CALIF – early next summer the renowned artist team of Peter King and Xinia Marin will present a hands-on, 3-day architectural ceramics workshop, June 21-23, at Studio 540 in historic downtown Nevada City, California.

Peter King is the author of the book Architectural Ceramics for the Studio Potter and is considered the father of modern architectural ceramics.  He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Art and has taught in several countries and in the United States.  Xinia Marin, Peter’s wife, is a retired professor from the University of Costa Rica with a deep knowledge of pre-Colombian ceramic art and glazes.

Peter and Xinia will work as a team instructing this 3-day intensive workshop.   From the ceramic materials and equipment to the design, fabrication and installation, students in this workshop will participate and work their way through all the major steps in the production of this large-scale architectural ceramic project.

The cost of the workshop is only $250! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Due to unusual circumstances we are able to offer this workshop at a fraction of the usual cost.   No previous experience is required to participate.  Anyone interested in beautifying their home or garden will benefit from the knowledge and experience they will take home from this workshop.  For more information about this workshop visit www.studio540.net or contact Rene Sprattling at (530) 277-1510.  To learn more about Peter King and Xinia Marin visit www.peterkingceramics.com and www.xiniamarin.com

About Studio 540

Home
Built in 1920, this old carriage repair shop on West Broad St. has been through many transitions and several artists. Now owned by Rene and Drue Sprattling Mathies, it serves three artists as a clay and glass studio, and is located within a five minute walk to the coffee cafés, wineries, restaurants and shops of historic and charming Nevada City. Once a booming gold rush town, Nevada City and the surrounding area has always held a strong attraction for artists.

We are only 65 miles from Sacramento in the Sierra Nevada Foothills. See map here

Anyone who has ever worked with the magical medium of clay  knows how captivating, addicting and soul enriching it can be. From my youth, when I first saw a bowl being thrown on the wheel, I knew this was  going to be a big part of my life's work.
